Q1. How can the success of democracy be assessed? Explain 

                                                                     OR 

"Democracy is better than any other form of government". Give arguments in favor of this statement.

Answer:-

1.  Democracy promotes equality among citizens by providing them equal opportunity for development. 

2. It provides a method to resolve conflict.

 3. It improves the quality of decision-making.

4.  It allows room to correct mistakes. 

5. It provides people the option to choose their own rulers.

Q2.  How does democracy produce an accountable, responsible and legitimate government?

Answer:- 

Accountable governmen:- 

1. It is accountable because people have right to elect the government.

2. People participate in the decision-making process in democracy. 

3. If the rulers do not work according to their wishes, they can be removed. 

4. The rulers are answerable to the people. 

5. The most basic outcomes of the democracy should be that it produces a government that is accountable to the people.  

Responsible government:-

1. It is responsive because they are very much responsible towards the need and aspiration of the people.

2.  It promotes formation of public opinion. 

3. It followed procedure before arriving at a decision. 

4. People are free to know if the decision is taken through proper procedure or not. 

Legitimate government:-

1. It is people's own government. 

2. It may be slow less efficient and not very responsive and clean but it is people's government. 

3. There is an overwhelming support for the idea of democracy all over the world. 

Democracy ability to generate its own support makes it more legitimate.

Q3. Explain the economic outcomes of democracy.

                                                      OR

 Explain the relationship between democracy and development. 

Answer:- 

1. The economic development of the country depends on several factors such as country's population size, global situation, etc.

2.  It is true that during last 50 years, dictatorships have shown slightly higher rate of economic growth in democracy.

3.  Ultra rich, enjoy a highly disproportionate share of wealth and income. 

4.  Those at the bottom of this society find it difficult to meet their basic needs of life, such as food, clothing and housing, etc.

5.  In actual life, democracies do not appear to be very successful in reducing economic inequalities.

Q4. What is meant by political equality?

Ans:- 

 Political equality refers to the political system where all individuals have equal opportunity and equal weight in electing representatives.

Q5. Democracy cannot reduce inequality of income between different citizens. Give reasons.

 Are democracies based on political and economic equalities? Explain.

Answer:-

1.  It is correct to state that democracy cannot reduce inequality of income between different citizens. 

2. Democracy provides political equality right to vote and other rights.

3. But it does not appear to be very successful in reducing Economic inequalities.

4. The ultra rich, enjoy a highly disproportionate share of wealth and income.

 5. At the bottom of society, the people have very little to depend upon which

6.  People are becoming richer and the poor find it difficult to fulfill their basic needs.

Q6. Do democracies lead to peaceful and harmonious life among citizens? Explain the statement with examples.

How can democracy be successful in bringing social harmony? 

Answer:-

1. Democracy usually develops a procedure to conduct their competition. This reduce the possibility of these tensions becoming explosive or violent.

2.  No society can fully and permanently resolve conflict among different social groups. But we can learn to respect these differences and evolve a mechanism to negotiate their differences.

3.  In democracy no one is permanent winner, no one is permanent loser.

4.  Different groups can live with one another peacefully in a democracy. The majority always needs to work with the minority. 

5. It helps by accommodating various social divisions and providing social equality to good citizens.

Q6. Describe how democracy accommodates social diversity.

What are the conditions under which democracies accommodate social diversities?

Answer:-

1. Democracy usually develops a procedure to conduct their competition. 

2. It is accommodate various social divisions. They make us learn to respect the differences and evolve a mechanism to negotiate the differences.

3.  Democracy is not simply a majority role. Majority needs to work with the minority. 

4. Rules of majority must not mean rule by majority community. 

5. Democracy remains democracy only when every citizen has a chance of being in majority at some point of time.

Q7. How democracies promote dignity and freedom of individuals?  Explain.

Answer:-

1.  Democracy stands much superior to any other form of government in promoting dignity and freedom of the individuals. 

2. Every individual wants to receive respect from fellow beings. 

3. The passion for respect and freedom are the basis of democracy all over the world. It recognizes all individuals are equal.

4. Most societies across the world were male-dominated, but democracies have created sensitivity that equal treatment of women.

5.  Caste based inequalities and atrocities are also not acceptable to the democracies.

Q8. "Expectations from democracy function as the criteria for judging any democratic country". Justify the statement.

                                                                                Or 

"The most distinctive feature of democracy is that its examination never gets over". Justify the statement with suitable arguments.

Answer:-

1.  The examination of democracy never gets over. It is said to be so because the expectations from democracy never end.  

2. As people get some benefit from democracy, they ask for more and want to see democracy function even better.

3.  The fact that people are complaining is itself a testimony to the success of democracy.

4.  Most individuals believe that their vote makes differences to the way a government runs. 

5. It transforms people's status from a subject into that of a citizen. 

Q9.  Mention social values which democracy reflects.

Answer:-

1. Democracy promotes women empowerment.

2. Democracy promotes dignity of the people. 

3. Democracy who promotes liberty of the people.

4. Equality is the major value of democracy.

5.  Scope to ractify the mistakes.
